Why I Wrote These Books

My first book, Radical Excellence, literally turned a nightmare into a dream. There were three really bad days in my twenty-three years spent in three different Christian schools. Three bad days, but well over four-thousand good ones.

To minimize the negative and regain balance with the positive, I started writing Radical Excellence. By openly addressing critical needs existing in Christian schools with positive action, the catharsis was of great personal benefit to me. As I wrote, my spirit lifted and my hope for Christian education was reinvigorated.

The book, Get a Grip – Join Life, originated at the suggestion of one of my students. Sometimes I give a two or three minute exhortation at the beginning of class discussing anything from study methods to how to set goals that lead to success.

Often I end this discourse with the statement, “Get a grip, join life.”

At the end of one of these, the student suggested I compile some of the things I had shared into a book with the title “Get a Grip, Join Life.”

So there you have it. Listening to your students can lead to good things.

We all want to live better, but in our society living better is often tied to the things we own or the enjoyment we experience. Such an approach to living the good life is distinctly not scriptural.

The Bible constantly admonishes us to build a life following the principles taught by God, and to follow the example of Jesus as He emphasized the internal life producing the external life we inhabit.

live better from the inside out addresses the nuts and bolts of how to live knowing that our mind matters most, and how that can affect us internally.

Okay, I admit it. I like golf more than a little bit. As a natural non-athlete, I found it necessary to use my mind to lower my score rather that attempt the impossible task of increasing my athleticism.

Good Bogey – Bad Bogey is the first in a series (likely three) of ebooks and/or video lessons to learn why the Mind Matters Most in lowering your golf score without improving your swing.

And how much fun it is as a writer to spend time on the course doing “research” for the current work-in-progress.

I did not write this book. My only role was to give my Physical Science students at Azusa Pacific University the opportunity to write it as a class semester project. Students did all the research, writing, formatting, cover design, production and launch promotion.

If you have any interest at all in the interrelationship between science and scripture I am confident this book will be extremely interesting. In fact, if you teach in a Christian school or do homeschooling, this book will fit nicely into your curriculum.

All profits from What’s God got to do with Science? are given to the APU general scholarship fund.

I struggled with the title for this book. To call it a manifesto seemed too stiff and presumptuous, yet the word fit the content perfectly. Simply a public statement of things I think could, and should, be implemented to help Christian schools set the standart in education.

I am now content with the title, The Christian School Manifesto, and am confident it represents the content of the book.

Check it out and see if you agree with my ideas. If not, perhaps we could begin a constructive dialogue
